Biography
A Life Defined by Service & Science
Dr. David Neil Calkins was born and raised in New Mexico — first on the Zuni reservation, then in Belen — and his lifelong commitment to serving underserved communities has defined every chapter of his career. He began his professional journey at the U.S. Military Academy before completing 12 years of distinguished service with the U.S. Army.
After earning his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Dr. Calkins joined the U.S. Navy, where he served an additional 15 years in roles spanning family physician, Flight Surgeon, and Anesthesiologist — both ashore and at sea aboard the 5th Fleet Hospital, the USS Abraham Lincoln, and the USS Carl Vinson.
Following retirement from military service, Dr. Calkins completed a Fellowship in Interventional Pain Management, adding advanced procedural expertise to his already formidable foundation. He has since practiced across multiple New Mexico communities and is currently based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
His clinical scope now encompasses anesthesiology, pain medicine, and a growing focus on wellness, longevity, and hormone optimization — the same pillars that make him the ideal architect of AyuvWell's regenerative medicine protocols.
